Saudi Arabia : Former Guantanamo Prisoners Released from Jail

Riyadh , Asharq Al-Awsat-Saudi Arabia freed three former GuantanamoBay detainees who have completed their jail sentences on Tuesday.
Mohammed al Nujeimi, member of the counseling committee, said the release occurred in line with legal requirements, including a pledge by the three men to stay away from problem areas and to accept a weekly follow up with security authorities, as well as full bail payment. The men had arrived in the Kingdom in July last year.
The Saudi authorities have previously released five former detainees after their jail sentences ended and they had undergone counseling, sponsored by the interior ministry. The program aims to re-train former inmates at the US base in Cuba and suspected al Qaeda members.
Fifteen former detainees who returned to Saudi Arabia last month will appear before the counseling committee after medical and psychological tests and the investigation with them are completed, al Nujeimi added.
The interior ministry had offered the first five returnees from GuantanamoBay financial aid and assistance, with Prince Mohammed bin Naif, assistant to the interior minister for security issues, attending the marriage of one former inmate and presenting him with a car in celebration.
