Eight Pakistanis to be Released Soon From Guantanamo - Minister

ISLAMABAD, June 1 (KUNA) -- Federal Interior Minister, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, Thursday said that the United States has agreed to release eight more Pakistanis detained at Guantanamo Bay prison. He talking to Pakistan Television (PTV) said about 29 Pakistanis were imprisoned at Guantanamo, and efforts were underway to bring back the remaining 21 detenus as well.

A source in the interior ministry told KUNA that the prisoners would be released in the next two weeks.

Earlier, the Minister said that about 35 Pakistanis were still languishing in US-controlledGuantanamoBay jail, where alleged terrorists and Al Qaeda members are detained.

However, he added, the US authorities had provided Pakistan the list of 29 Pakistanis detained in GuantanamoBay.

He said a delegation of the foreign office would visit GuantanamoBay to get complete information about detained Pakistanis so that they could be released.

About 67 Pakistanis had returned from GuantanamoBay.
