Bahraini Guantanamo Inmates to be Released Soon: Diplomat

Agence France Presse
July 23, 2006

MANAMA , July 23, 2006 (AFP) - Three Bahraini inmates held in the US military prison at GuantanamoBay will soon be released, a diplomat said on Sunday.

"An agreement has been reached to release the three detainees," said the diplomat, who asked not to be named.

He said one would be freed within a few weeks and the others separately.

"This will be a final closure of the question of Bahraini detainees," he added, as the only three other Bahraini detainees were set free last November.

The US is holding about 500 people without charge at the disputed Guantanamo detention centre, most of them captured in 2001 in Afghanistan.
